Wlodzimierz Wladyslaw Mudry was born on 29th April 1917 at Grzymalo in Poland (now part of the Ternopil region of Ukraine). He was in the Polish Air Force, details currently unknown, before the German attack in September 1939 and after the Polish defeat he escaped through Romania and France arriving in the UK in early 1940.

After processing and converting to Hurricanes (probably at 5 OTU Aston Down) he was posted to 79 Squadron at Pembrey on 11th September 1940. On 23rd February 1941 he was posted to the newly formed 316 Squadron, also based at Pembrey.

His next posting was to 286 Squadron, an anti-aircraft cooperation unit, on 4th March 1942 after which he went on to the staff of 16 FTS Newton on 24th June 1944. He instructed for the rest of the war and was released (as a member of the Polish Air Force) in January 1946.

He joined the RAF in 1948 as an instructor, qualifying as a Master Pilot on 1st August that year. He retired on 29th April 1967 and died in 1988.
