"Butch" survived the war. DFC with bar. Seven aircraft shot down while serving in Battle of Britain and defence of England, followed by Squadron leader duties in Malta. Became Commanding officer at North Weld. Greater detail in the obituary to the right. Originally 249 was a Hurricane squadron, converting to Spitfires in 1942, and finally Mustangs in it's sweeps through Europe in 1945. From the RAF obituary "On his return to Canada he lived a quiet life. Much of his time was devoted to caring for his wife, who for a long time was in poor health, and every year they wintered in Arizona. His great passion was fishing in the rivers and lakes of British Columbia, where he was regarded as one of the region's finest fly fishermen.
