Known for the image (IWM) of his crashed Spitfire due to engine failure, during Normandy operations, as allied tanks roll past. Pilot was in air operations the next day, member of 412 Squadron, 126 wing.

Graduated from Waterville CL, Windsor in 1936. Attended Windsor Business School 1936 - 1937. Worked as an accounting clerk with Associated Services before enlisting. Pilot training at Eglinton hunt club, Toronto #3EFTS, London, Ontario, #6SFTS Dunnville, #54OTU Carlisle, England. Commissioned overseas in May 1942.

Served in Africa, Italy and European theatres of war from March 1941 to February 1946.
