Frantisek Marek was born at Ceske Budejovice, Czechoslovakia on 30th April 1913. He was serving with the Czech Air Force when that country was occupied by the Germans. He joined a Czech unit serving with the Polish Air Force and subsequently joined the French Air Force after the fall of Poland.
By June 1940 he was in England and he joined 310 Squadron at Duxford on 6th August. On the 29th August he was attached to 19 Squadron at Fowlmere.
Marek was killed on 14th September 1940 when his Spitfire R6625 came down near Orsett, Essex. The cause was almost certainly a failure of his oxygen supply.
Marek is buried in Eastbrookend Cemetery, Barking, Essex.
