Served as ADC to Sir Miles Lampson in Cairo in 1936.
O/C No. 64 Sqd. RAF Church Fenton at the start of the war.
Posted to France at the time of Dunkirk and probably helped direct Fighters with A/C John Cole-Hamilton at South Violet.

Posted variously to RAF Warmwell, Portreath, St Eval, Atcham and Fairwood Common before joining the Air Ministry in 1944.
