My father Alexander Naismith joined the RAF and served as a pilot in Burma during WW2. I have tried to find out some of his history but have had little success. I do have a few of his logbooks, while he was in South Africa, Egypt and Burma.
He stayed in the RAF after the war, and became a flying instructor. As a kid ( I'm now 72!) we lived at Hullavington, where I have memories of men cutting up Lancaster bombers for scrap. We moved to Syerston and Alex continued as an instructor, as a Master pilot. He had a bad accident at Syerston while flying and was grounded, as unfit for flying duties. He went on to Ground school at Waddington and RAF Cranwell.
I keep searching for information about his service, but I am living in Australia, and it's not easy to access info, never mind where to look.
I found this site following an inquiry I made about Alex's Caterpillar Club membership, I made contact with Irvin and they sent me some information.
On your site, Alex's name appears to be missing, however as you can see, he was the pilot of an aircraft you have listed.
Can I request that you include him to your database?
Alex died on 7th February 2000.
