John Malcolm Maffre (1921-2016) was a Spitfire pilot with 416 Squadron. Three of his brothers also served. Two were killed (Kenneth and Gerald). John graduated from McGill University in 1949, earning a B.Arts. He moved to the USA in the early 1960s, working as a writer and photographer for The Washington Post.
