Comments / Questions:by: Peter Phelps Whatever happened to AA761? 2016-10-17 00:24:43 There is some confusion over the fate of this aircraft. It is shown as being shot down near St Omer on 13th March 1942, flown by P/O Reid. This was the aircraft ON-A shown in the photos. No serial is visible, but the aircraft was clearly captured by Germans. It is subsequently also shown as being shot down in France on 27th April 1942 flown by Sgt Kothera. AA761's log confirms this, as it is marked "FTR" on that day, but there are two subsequent entries showing the same aircraft being flown by 124 Squadron's CO, W/Cmdr Duke-Wooley, on 30th April. Clearly the Squadron's record keeping was rather unreliable at the time. reply |
