This Mk.IX was originally sent to Malta, but was diverted to North Africa. Many Spitfires in Malta were painted blue as to blend in more with the ocean. S/L Wade took this Mk.IX as his personal ride and left it blue, thus it was nicknamed "Bluebird"
This Spitfire did not have squadron markings.
