Hit by flak as attack began near Wangerooge which resulted the loss of a wing. The aircraft exploded and fell into the sea. Polish War Memorial RAF Northolt Panel 68. It is possible that Flt Lt Szczerbinski was the last Polish fighter and Spitfire pilot to be killed in WWII. reply |
