Former Spitfire pilot J.H.S. Taylor went to Borne (The Netherlands) to the location het landed with his parachute on November 19, 1944 as he bailed out of his Spitfire PR Mk.XI PL597 due to engine trouble.
As the Germans couldn't find the pilot a boy was shot on the site and a week later another 3 civilians. Taylor evaded to Delden, Zutphen and Rhenen to the river Rhine and was captured and taken to Stalag Luft 1 POW camp at Barth in Northern Germany. He was liberated on April 30 1945 by the Russians.
Until 1990 he was unaware of the executions of Nov 19 and 25 1944 in Borne, when he was told, it changed his life drastically and a book appeared "One Flight Too Many".
