Spitfire RM839 was flown by Flt/L Lem Barnes of 402 Sqdrn (originally from Calgary Alberta Canada) when it was brought down. Uncle Lem survived and spent the remainder of the war in a POW camp.

According to No 126 Wing RCAF (Osprey Publishing). On page 97 it states that Flt Lt L G Barnes managed to evade the enemy. I cannot find any information regarding his time in captivity.
