I am the author and publicist on ww II history. This is my family unsolved dramatic story of a guy of great sense of humor, brave in hard straffing and bombing missions. Hamankiewicz, Roman Jerzy ( "George"). A brother of my grandmother. Born in 1916, Warsaw. Polish Air Force and R.A.F. Fighter pilot, 1939-1944. Squadrons, Polish: 303, 306, 309, 318 and in R.A.F: 601, 241. Aircrafts: Hurricane, Spitfire Mk V, Mk VIII i IX. He missed in action during offensive recon flight in the Adriatic Sea, 1.09.1944. Reason: engine failure, he jumped with parachute, not found. Last mission aircraft: Spitfire Mk VIII, JF- 394. His no 2 was British Sgt. F. Stevens (241 RAF). Looking for any info or concept on death reason. I got all operational reports from 318 i 241.
