Pilot Officer Walter Ephraim Cripps from Etobicoke, Ontario. He was attacked by enemy fighters and needed to bailed out near Ta Qali airfield. The parachute failed to open and he died of sustained wounds. He was part of 601 Squadron. 601 and 603 Squadrons arrived on Malta on 20 Apil 1942 as part of a 48 Spitfire Mk Vc reinforcement that flew off the aircraft carrier USS Wasp in Eastern Mediterranean
