Joined 306 Sqn in January 1941, then posted to 81 Sqdn 29/03/1942. On 07/07/1942 posted to 316 and then to 182 Sqdn on 28/09/1942.
On 27/5/42, during Cine gun combat practice in BM158, FL-Y, collided with P/O Robert Woodhead (BM467, FL-T) who crashed near Southend, fatally. Sgt. Bubes in his damaged Spitfire, with almost complete loss of aileron control, managed to bring his aircraft back to base.
