Stanley Baker attended the London Choir School, after which he went to Pitman's College at Croydon. He joined the RAFVR in June 1939 as an Airman u/t Pilot. He was called up on 1st September. With training completed, Baker was commissioned in June 1940 and went to 5 OTU Aston Down. He converted to Blenheims and joined 600 Squadron at Northolt in late June.
In early August Baker went to 6 OTU Sutton Bridge and on the 7th he crashed in Spitfire P9518 but was unhurt. After finishing the conversion course he joined 54 Squadron at Hornchurch on 18th August. Baker moved to 66 Squadron at Gravesend on 23rd September. He claimed a Me110 destroyed on the 27th and a Me109 on 25th October.
Baker was reported 'Missing' on a sweep over France on 11th February 1941. His Spitfire II P7568 was shot down by a Me109 off Boulogne. Possibly shot down by either Uffz Rudiger Belling 2 (J) LG2 or Lt Friedrich Geibhart 1 (J) LG2 off Cap Blanc Nez.
He is remembered on the Runnymede Memorial, Panel 31.
