Terence Anthony (Tony) HARRIS
From the National Archives AIR/27/56 4 Squadron SAAF ORB
21-Feb-45 (PT954)
Capt. Tony Harris was last heard to call up over the R/T to say he was baling out due to engine trouble. He was returning from a Weather recce and was over the Adriatic at the time. Subsequent ASR aircraft failed to locate any trace of him at all and it is with a heavy heart that the Squadron posted him as ""Missing on Operations"". Tony, well known to all South Africans and rugby fans the world over, joined us when 41 squadron was disbanded last year.
He was rescued and was a POW being released on 15-May-45
Harris represented South Africa in five Rugby Union Tests during the 1930s. He retired from rugby after World War II, and concentrated on cricket and played for South Africa in 3 Tests from 1947 to 1949
