19-Mar-45 Hit in petrol tank - crashlanded
During the attack Lt.D.R.Phelan's a/c was hit by small arms fire from the target area.
The bullet entered one of his petrol tanks causing fuel to pour from the machine.
The overpowering fumes and the fear that there would be insufficient petrol to fly the aircraft back to base,
Lt.Phelan made a successful forced landing near VILLANOVA, which is only just in friendly territory.
