He was killed whilst flying in Spitfire VB, ER461 of No 601 Sqn, which was probably shot down near Marble Arch by enemy fighters. He is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial.

During the afternoon, 12 aircraft took off on an Offensive Sweep and reconnaissance of the MARBLE ARCH AREA and LANDING GROUND.
....
After the engagement and on reforming, it was found that No. 913822. W/O. B. RAISES (Australian) pilot in SPITFIRE V.B. No. E.R. 461, was missing. No trace could be found of this pilot or aircraft, and none of the other pilots were able to give any further information. W/O. RAISES was therefore reported MISSING cause unknown the aircraft being CAT III (Missing).
