Flew off HMS Eagle to Malta. Received DFC from General Gort. Took part on Normandy campaign. After the war was test pilot for Rolls Royce. Later test pilot for Westlands. On October 30 1949 was killed when test flying a Wyvern. The plane exploded . He tried to get it back to the airfield. It crashed into some houses short of the runway. In 1947 Michael married Pauline Pool . They had one son Michael.
