Crashed on landing Spitfire ES362 at Canne the aircraft landed up on its nose.

5th August 1944
To Vis, on landing P/O Oddy swung off the end of runway into the vines. His a/c hitting a group of partisans killed two & injuring three more, one whom died in hospital. P/O Oddy was taken off flying.

Norman Leslie Oddy 158748, attached to Number 22 PTC , was admitted to Number 63 British general hospital from SSQ and transferred to Number 5 S.A. hospital. A history was difficult to obtain due to his mental confusion. His temperature was 104.6 and his abdomen was distended. Severe typhoid fever with a poor prognosis was diagnosed and this proved to be the case when he died in the early hours of 18 December of typhoid fever, toxameia and periphial vascular faliure . This was despite a tyhoid inoculation 6 months previously. It was felt he was probably unduly sensitive to the bacteria or had ingested a massive dose
