Jefferson Heywood Wedgwood took command of 92 Squadron on 21 January 1942

He was killed whilst flying in Halifax II, DT542 NF-Q of No 138 Sqn, which crashed on take-off from Luqa on a transit flight back to the UK. He is buried in Malta (Capuccini) Naval Cemetery.
