Egbert Smith joined 92 Squadron 22nd September 1944, he was kia on 12 November 1944

He was killed whilst flying in Spitfire VIII, JF466 of No 92 Sqn, which failed to return from a weather recce to Fiume in Italy. He is commemorated on the Malta Memorial.
P/O J.Lane flying Spitfire JF894 also failed to return. Both pilots missing details unknown.
