After the capitulation by the Vichy regime in 1940, Yves Lelchat joined the resistance group "Notre Dame" in Brittany (named after CND Castille). In 1942, the group was betrayed. Denounced, Yves Lelchat must hide. He left France in the hold of a trawler for England right under the noses of german soldiers. In 1943, at 23 years old, he joined the RAF and was part of the hunting group "Ile de France" on Spitfire. He actively participated in the campaign of France, Germany and Holland. He was demobilized in February 1946. He was awarded the French Legion of Honor for his military acts.
