Sgt John Owen Carpenter (1250267) joined 92 Squadron RAF on 30th June 1941, after transferring to North Africa in 1942 with the squadron, he was briefly attached to 112 Squadron RAF on 3rd May 1942 returning to 92 Squadron on 13th May 1942. Due to the non arrival of 92 Squadron’s compliment of spitfires, he, with several other pilots of 92, was attached to 80 Squadron RAF flying Hurricanes from 2nd July 1942 to the 1st August 1942. From 7th August 1942 he continued to fly Spitfires, promoted Pilot Officer in November he left the squadron on 28th December 1942 on posting to 59 RSU.
