He flew PRU with 542 squadron out of England and 682 squadron out of North Africa and Italy. Flew 67 missions until 1944 then became a flying instructor in Scotland. He stayed on in the RAF and flew Shackleton and Sunderland for RAF Coastal Command in England and Singapore until late 1950’s.
His comment on first flying Spitfire XI BS502: (1943-02-24) "1st flight in an XI. Rether crafty, I was going so fast I nearly collided with myself crossing out, when I was crossing in - straight line! Quite truthfully a wonderful aircraft."
He flew the same plane to Berlin (and back) on his 17th ops on March 4th, 1943.
