Jun 1940: Enlisted in the RAAF in Sydney.
Nov 40 - Feb 41: Empire Air Training Scheme, Canada. Graduated as Airman Pilot with rank of SGT.
Apr 1941: Seconded to the RAF in England. Posted to 55 OTU at RAF Usworth.
Aug 1941: Posted to 5 (C)OTU at RAF Chivenor.
Sep 1941: Posted to 3 SGR at RAF Squires Gate.
Nov 1941: Posted to 1 (C)OTU at RAF Silloth.
Mar 1942: Posted to 2 (C)OTU at RAF Catfos.
May 1942: Commissioned as P/O.

Is thought to have been transferred to the Middle East (?Malta) for photo reconnaissance duties. Unit unknown.
11 Nov 1942: Shot down while approaching Malta in a Spitfire and spent many hours floating in the Mediterranean before being rescued. Became a member of the Caterpillar and Goldfish Cubs.

15 Nov 1942: Promoted F/O.
Dec 1942: Posted to 3 PRU in Kolkata, India.
Dec 1943: Posted to 681 SQN.
Jun 1944: Promoted F/L and brought back to Australia for Flying Instructor duties (RAAF).
Jun 1945: Discharged at own request on compassionate grounds.
