Born in Scawby, Brigg, Lincolnshire. Brother of pilot Derrick Denton. Grew up in Brigg and attended Brigg Grammar school. School magazine of December 1941 notes that EJ Denton was last heard Flight training in Arcadia, Florida

School magazine of Spring 1943 notes the visit of E. J. Denton and his brother D. A. Denton (a Spitfire instructor)
Magazine of summer 1943 notes the visit of EJ Denton, playing in the Old Boys cricket team.

CWGC records death on July 1st 1943 with 680 Squadron. However, there is no mention of him in the squadron records for June or July.

RAF Commands Form notes: Edward John Denton 1234108 , a pilot , was reported missing, presumed dead in Spitfire MB 784 which left Maison Blanche for GAFSA at 15:00 Hours on 1 July.

MB 784 was a new aircraft. Could he have been delivering it to his new squadron when he was lost? He took off from Maison Blanche Algeria, which was not a 680 squadron base.

Agree I also gave the ORBs a look over, no mention in particular on June 30 (per aircraft DB on MB784) or July 1. No earlier mention in June or July also confirms this pilot was not flying for 680 at that time.
