Post war JLC Strang arrived in India just before Independence and became a tea planter in Assam.
He continued flying in Assam and was tasked with setting up a network of airstrips to serve the tea estates on the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra river. This enabled improved communications and medical access. During the great earthquake and floods of 1950 he flew sorties dropping food supplies to isolated and stranded communities and coordinated rescue efforts with the Indian Army.
Strang became a director of several Tea Companies operating in India, Sri Lanka and Africa. From the Mid 1970 he was based in London.
At the age of 60 he qualified as a glider pilot in the Austrian Tirol.
After a long illness he passed away in 2009.
