Training at 3 British Flying Training School, Spartan School of Aeronautics, Miami, Oklahoma from 12 November 1942 to 24 May 1943. After various training courses, trained on Spitfire Mark V from December 1944 with 57 OTU at RAF Eshott and RAF Boulmer, then Spitfire Mark IX with 84 GSU ar RAF Latham March 1945.
Served with 2 TAF 322 (Dutch) Squadron from 18 March 1945, undertaking 25 operations in Mark XVI Spitfire. Crashed uninjured inside allied lines on Good Friday 1945 after rudder unit shot up by flak during a raid on German headquarters, Zutphen, Holland. Continued flying on raids until end of the War and remained with the squadron until 7 June 1945. He remained in the RAF becoming an instructor for elementary training until June 1946.
