F/Lt V. H. Twomey was a member of No.73 Sqn RAF:

06/06/1944 - Four sweeps on an eventful day led to some aircraft damage, with Flt Lt Twomey bailing out of (Spitfire) (JK454). He was seen to land safely and to be making his way towards the Partisans (and it was learned later that he was safe with them). ?

06/06/1944 Achive version
F/Lt Twomey, F/O Chumak & F/O Wyndham operating from Vis Island were airborne on a offensive sweep. The railway lines were given a rest for a few hours and the 3 aircraft swept the road from split, on the coast to S.E to Makarska and all secondary roads. Two M.T's were attacked and damaged also a motorcycle. Section also swept the main road from Makarska via split to Knin. Near Knin the leader aircraft developed engine trouble to the extent that that pilot (F/Lt Twomey) had to bale out. He landed safely (parachute) and was believed to be in a area controlled by Yugo-Slav partisans. The other two pilots landed safely at Vis.

F/Lt Vincent H. J Twomey captured 6/6/1944 in 267 Stalag Luft lll (East).

Stalag Luft III was a Luftwaffe-run prisoner of war camp during the Second World War, which held captured Western Allied air force personnel. The camp was established in March 1942 in the German province of Lower Silesia near the town of Sagan, 160 kilometres south-east of Berlin
