Lieutenant 79781V, 249 (R.A.F.) Squadron, South African Air Force. Killed in action flying out of Foggia Main, Italy, in a Supermarine Spitfire VC, serial number JK532, when his aircraft was shot down by flak just off Durazzo when returning from a ground attack sortie to Albania, baled out over the sea but could not be recovered 30 March 1944. Aged 22. Native of Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa. Son of Frank and Amy McCardle, of Dunkeld, Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa. Panel 17, Column 1. Malta
