Known as Malcolm Kerr. Son of Frederick Bernard Kerr and Margaret (May) nee Richardson-Henderson. Born in 1909 in Headingly Leeds when the family name was Althaus. It was changed in 1914 following the reactions to the German atrocities following the outbreak of WW1. Frederick Kerr had established a great reputation as an artist under the name Fritz Althaus. He married in 1907 at the age of 46 and effectively retired from work as a professional artist and became a teacher of Art in Leeds until he retired to live in Cheshire.

Gerald Malcolm Theodore Kerr was the first son and doted upon by his mother.

He died missing in action in his Spitfire L1000 over Dunkirk on 29th May 1940. He left a wife and 2 children. There is a memorial plaque in St Laurence Parish Church, Frodsham, Cheshire. See: https://www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/item/memorial/88418
