Born in Fana in 1917. During the Second World War, he served as an aviation officer, taking part in the Norwegian Campaign, later training in Little Norway in Canada, and flying with No. 332 Squadron RAF.
After the war, he served with the Royal Norwegian air force and rose through the ranks, becoming Major General in 1962 and Lieutenant General in 1964, eventually serving as Chief of the Royal Norwegian Air Force. In 1964, he was appointed Commander of the Order of St. Olav. Among his wartime honors were the War Cross with sword, the British Distinguished Flying Cross, and the American Legion of Merit.
He passed away on 26 September 2016 at the age of 99.
