José Blairon was was at the Mining school of Mons when the general mobilisation of Belgium was proclaimed. On 8 April
1940 joined the Flying School but was evacuated to Oujda, Morocco, when Germans over run the country.

By August 1940 he had escaped toEngland. He joined the FrancoBelgian EFTS at Odiham (2 November 1940), 5 SFTS at Ternhill (15 May 1941), 61OTU at Heston (20 August 1941). José Blairon was posted to 74 Sqn on 7 October 1941. He then joined the newly created 350 (Belgian) Squadron on 18 November 1941.

He was killed on May 9, 1942, flying as Red 4 in Spitfire AA857 (Circus 170): a victim of Georg Hutter's Fw.190 of 5./JG1. Sustaining damaged in the area of Walcheren, Jose nursed the Spitfire to the British coast - where he was compelled to bale out at very low-level. He was recovered by an Air Sea Rescue launch but died of his injuries within hours He was buried at Brookwood cemetery.
