L.M.G (Gaston) Dancot was a student when war started. He escaped to Great Britain where he arrived in August 1940. Enlisted in the Belgian ground forces, he asked transfer to the RAF. Enlisted into the RAF VR (exact date to be confirmed) Gaston was sent to the 6 EFTS on December 20, 1941, to the 22 SFTS, May 1, 1942 and 58 OTU, September 23, 1942. He was designated to join 350 (BE) Sqn, and arrived on December 23, 1942. The Squadron diary notes the following:
'23/12/1942 Five new pilots arrives from OTU: L. Dancot, G. De Jaegher, J. Groensteen, J. Lavigne and J. Wustefeld'
Promoted to F/Sgt on 17 June 1943. On December 28, 1943, Dancot was involved in a five-aircraft 'Rhubarb'. He was shot down in combat by a FW-190(Feldwebel Wilhelm Mayer, 7./JG26), his plane was seen to crash in flames. The following extract is from the Squadron diary:
'28/12/1943 Rhubarb to dive-bomb V-1 sites: G. Dancot crashes after a dogfight with Fw-190's ( victim of Feldwebel Wilhelm Mayer, 7./JG26) and is avenged by P. Siroux who destroyed one of the opponents. S/Ldr A. Boussa sent together with A. Plisnier on rest, is replaced by S/Ldr L. Prevot DFC'
