De de Hepcée Joined the Military Flying School on 1March 1939 and was posted to 3Aé Rgt on 15 January 1940. When Germans invaded the country, his unit left for France (15/05/1940). After returning to Belgium on 20 August 1940 (following the capitulation) he escaped during early 1941 and arrived in the UK on 8 July 1941.
He joined the RAFVR on 7 August 1941 and undertook training at 5 ITW (8/12/41), 10 EFTS(4/04/42), RAF Depot (8/07/42), RAF College (22/07/42) and 58 OTU (12/01/43).

"Mich" de Hepcée Michel was posted in to 350 (Belgian) Squadron on 17 March 1943 and was killed in action on 13 November 1943. The squadron diary records the following:

"13/11/1943 RHUBARB OPERATIONS. F/S BOUTE and SGT DE HEPCEE. UP 11.30 Hours. Intention was to cover LOKEREN, LIERRE, NINOVE area. Both pilots did not return and both are reported missing.
RHUBARB OPERATIONS. F/O MICHIELS and F/O DUCHESNE. UP 12.45 Hours. Down 13.55 Hours; Intension was to cover A/D's BELSELE and SWEVEZEELE. Railway's LOKEREN, TERMONDE, ALOST, NINOVE, GRAMMONT, AUDENARDE. The Section returned when half-way out, owing to yellow 1 losing his tank. Today being the Squadron's second anniversary, a Requiem Mass was celebrated in the morning bij the Squadron Padre S/L BOONE, and the new Squadron Flag blessed."
