Immediately after the German invasion, Marcel Grawels escaped to Great Britain - where he arrived on May 18th, 1940. He enlisted to the V.R. of the RAF in1941 and trained at: 5 ITW (6 December 1941), 10 EFTS (4 April 1942), 22 SFTS (22 July 1942) and 58 OTU (12 January 1943). He was assigned to 350 (BE) Sqn and arrived on 23 March 1943.
On July 11th, 1943, Grawels and Vandepoel, returning from a training session (Ouston, Durham), collided during their approach: resulting in the loss of both pilots.
