Sylwester Godlewski was 27 when his Spitfire (WX-B of 302 SQN) crashed after a suspected oxygen-related incident in 1942 Remains of his aircraft were rediscovered in 2021.
An official report on the incident from the time said: "The pilot probably fainted from unknowns. The aircraft went into a spin, crashing into a wood, and was completely destroyed."
F/O Godlewski's remains were interred in Brookwood Cemetary - section H, grave 289.
Further investigation is on-going. There are a number of conflicting/missing pieces of information
