He was promoted F/O 1st Oct 42 (Gazetted 1st Dec 42)
He was among the 154 pilots who flew from Gibraltar to Algiers on 9th Nov 42 as part of Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa.
Records for the period are incomplete, but he flew with 154 from Djidjelli, Taher, and Bone Nov/Dec/Jan, being credited with the destruction of a Ju88 on 16th Nov.
He crashed on takeoff from Bone on 13th Jan 42 - he was seriously injured and did not fly again with the squadron
