W/O J D Townend
Sometimes incorrectly noted as W or Bill Townend (as in attached picture) who was W. Townsend who flew for another squadron.
1944-12-09 - Engine cut swapping to long range tank and engine would not restart when swapping back to main tank. Stalled and crashed whilst trying to make a forced landing at Sapam. A/C was a total write off but he was lucky to walk away with relatively minor injuries and shock. His No. 1 on the Day P/O Curnock wrote in his flight log "No.2's Engine Cut. Span In - Miracle unhurt!!".
