According to CASPIR

421 Red Indian Squadron (Bellicum Cecinere). Spitfire aircraft MK 235 was engaged in an assault patrol when Flying Officer Murray reported by r/t that his engine had cut out and he would have to bail out. The aircraft went into a normal glide and landed in the water eight miles south of Tangmere in the English Channel. When Flying Officer Murray bailed out his parachute caught in the tail wheel and he was dragged under by his aircraft.
