Comments / Questions:by: SteveH 2016-10-11 12:24:24 17th July 1943 logbook entry of Flt /Lt W.H.Hughes Type: Spitfire Vc Serial: JL125 Pilot: Self Duty: Sweep Augusta - Catania Flight: 2Hrs 5Mins Log: Bounced by 7 Me109's off R.A East of Mt. Etna they dived from 20,000 feet to sea level and left us. Did shhot up of Catania drome at zero feet. Bags of light flak. Flt/Sgt Patterson got one destroyed. C.O shot up and returned with half a rudder. F/O St.John Missing. Flt/Lt Hughes had been flying JL125 all of June and up to 17th July 1943 with 232 Squadron. Log does not indicate he was flying this machine when it was lost. From 18th July he was flying JL325 reply |
