Comments / Questions:by: Red Dragon Pilot Officer Geoff Wellum 2017-04-28 16:59:48 On 20th September I flew two patrols with 92 Squadron in K9998. After this length of time I can recall nothing of the action, but I do remember during September and October 1940, Me109s were always in the Biggin Hill Sector in numbers and caused problems. I recall that they were always above us as we never seemed to be scrambled in time to get enough height. Our climb was always a desperate, full throttle affair, but we never quite got up to them. I did manage to get a crack at two Me109s on one patrol but although I saw strikes I could only claim them as damaged. The Few: The Story of the Battle of Britain in the Words of the Pilots reply |
