"Racing driver. Born Alfred Fane Peers Agabeg in India, he later changed his name to Fane. He raced in the 1936 VI Mountain Championship race at Brooklands in a Fraser-Nash but failed to finish. He competed in the 1935 & 1937 Le Mans 24hr races but retired each time. In 1938 Mille Miglia he gained a 2-litre class win in a BMW 328 driving single-handed to the end.

At the outbreak of WW2 he enlisted in the RAFVR (Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve) as a pilot and attained the rank of Flight Lieutenant. It was whilst attached to 1 Photographic Reconnaissance Unit RAFVR that after flying his Spitfire back from a mission in France, he fatally crashed near Duxford, Cambridgeshire.

His widow, Evelyn Mary Fane of Farnham Royal, placed a plaque to her late husband at the hill climb course at Shelsley Walsh where in 1936 he held the record for the fastest time of 38.77secs in his single seat Frazer-Nash."
