Alfred Eric Davies was a member of 604 Squadron Auxiliary Air Force at Hendon before the war. He was commissioned in June 1939 and called to full-time service on 24th August.
With his flying training completed, he joined the staff of No. 1 School of Army Co-operation at Old Sarum.
From there he joined 26 (Army Co-operation) Squadron at West Malling on 7th June 1940. Davies was posted to 7 OTU Hawarden on 22nd August and after converting to Spitfires joined 610 Squadron at Acklington on 3rd September, moving to 222 Squadron at Hornchurch on the 28th.
On 25th October he probably destroyed a Me109.
He was killed on 30th October 1940 when his wing was shot off in combat with Me109's. His Spitfire, N3119, crashed and burned out at Upper Wilting Farm, Crowhurst.
Davies was 23 and is buried in Tanworth St. Mary Magdalene Churchyard extension - South of chancel. Grave 1601.
Son of Alfred Evan Davies and Norah Davies, of Tanworth-in-Arden; husband of Audrey Maud Phyliss Davies, of Tanworth-in-Arden.
