Squadron leader "Hank" Zary was actually an American who served with 416, and 421 Squadron RCAF, destroying a Bf-109 on 28th June in 1944, and a triple victory on 25 July 1944 with 421 Squadron (source: Kostenuk, RCAF Squadrons). He was known to fly TB 752 (spare) and on 21st April, 1945 destroyed another Bf 109 to become the final American ace of WWII, as CO of 403 Squadron. DFC. He contracted "pleurisy" shortly after the war and died in an Ottawa, Ontario hospital (likely the veterans hospital) on 11 Feb 1946. (Another source indicates his place of death at Quebec).
