"Buck" McNair in P8263 DB-Y dammaged a Bf.109 on 27 Sept. 1941, then in P7679 DB-F destroyed another along with a second probably destroyed. Bailed out over Channel and was rescued, returning to Digby (source: Kostenuk, RCAF Squadrons). Served in Malta. DSO, DFC 2 bars.
Full bio given in link to the right. Survived the war, eventually became commander of No 4 Fighter Wings of the No. 1 Air Division Europe (cold war) from 1957 until 1961, Sept 14.
* editor's (founder's) note: I was born at the small hospital on the base of Baden-Solingen, the hospital immediately off the airstrip where Sabres and Starfihghters flew off on cold war missions. My father was a teacher on assignment on the base during this time-frame (William J Turchan).
