"Max" or "Dickie" scored 15 victories, Image right; Wing Commander Richard Maxwell Milne of of No.222 Squadron RAF, when based at North Weald, Essex. (IWM). Canadian Beurling flew a mark V initially assigned to him AD223, scoring many victories. Commanded Biggin Hill Wing in 1943. Shot down in March 1943 and became POW, surviving the war, subsequently involved in aviation industry.
From 'Spitfire Flying Legend" by Dibbs / Holmes, page 78, "Biggin Hill Wing Leader Dickie Milne was shot down into the Channel b a Fw-190A-4 of IL/JG 26 and captured on 14th of March, following a bitter dogfight over Berck-Sur-Mer."
