Volunteered for Pilot Training 1942. Was enlisted in the Arnold Scheme whereby RAF Pilots were trained by US Army Air Corp.

8 July – 6 Sept 1942 – Primary Training Darr Aero Tech Albany Georgia USA
9 Sept – 7 Nov 1942 – Basic Training – Gunter Field (now Gunter Annex), Montgomery Alabama
15 Nov – 22 Jan 1943 – Advanced Training and Gunnery – Craig Field, Selma Alabama USA. Flew many aircraft:
Magister – two seater monoplane basic trainer built by Miles
Stearman PT17 – two seater (Boeing biplane trainer)
BT13 - Vultee advanced trainer
AT6 – T6 Texan/Harvard pilot trainer
Anson – Avro Anson twin engine multi role 6 seater aircraft
Oxford – Airspeed Oxford used as pre-trainer for Avro Lancaster
Master – Miles M9 Master – agile high performance fighter
Martinet – Miles M25 Target Tug gunnery trainer
Harvard – AT6b Gunnery training

Spitfire – various variants
